Account & Data Deletion
Last updated: July 5, 2026
This is a general template and should be reviewed by legal counsel before launch.
You have the right to delete your Yaar Khata account and the personal data associated with it. This page explains exactly how to request deletion, what gets removed, and how long anything is kept. It applies to the Yaar Khata mobile app and the Service at yaarkhata.com.
1. Delete your account from within the app
The quickest way to delete your account is directly in the app:
- Open the Yaar Khata app and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Profile.
- Select Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account will be scheduled for deletion.
If you have an active paid subscription, we recommend cancelling it first (or it will be cancelled as part of deletion so you are not billed again).
2. Delete your account by email
If you can't access the app, you can request deletion by email:
- Email support@yaarkhata.com from the email address registered to your account.
- Use the subject line "Delete my account".
- Include your account name so we can verify your identity.
We may ask you to confirm ownership of the account before proceeding, to protect your data from unauthorised deletion requests. Once verified, we will process your request, typically within 7 days.
3. What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we remove or irreversibly anonymise your personal information, including:
- Your profile details — name, email address, phone number and profile photo.
- Your login credentials and authentication tokens.
- Your preferences and settings.
- Receipt photos you uploaded that are not required by other members' shared records.
- Support tickets and their contents linked to your account (subject to the retention note below).
4. Shared group data
Yaar Khata is a shared ledger, so some data involves other people. Expenses, splits, settlements and balances that you created within a group are visible to the other members of that group and form part of their financial record. When you delete your account:
- Your personal identifiers are removed and your presence in shared records is anonymised (for example, shown as a removed member) so the remaining members' balances stay accurate.
- Entries that involve other members are not deleted outright, because doing so would corrupt other people's records. They are disassociated from your personal identity.
If you want a specific shared expense corrected, ask the group members to edit or remove it before you delete your account.
5. Data we may retain, and for how long
After deletion, limited information may be retained only where necessary:
- Billing & transaction records — kept for up to 7 years to meet tax, accounting and legal obligations. Payment card details are held by Stripe, not by Yaar Khata.
- Anonymised or aggregated data — data that no longer identifies you may be retained to keep the Service accurate and to improve it.
- Legal & safety records — information we are legally required to keep, or that is needed to resolve disputes, prevent fraud or enforce our Terms.
- Backups — residual copies in secure, encrypted backups are overwritten on our normal backup rotation, generally within 30 days.
6. Timeframe
We aim to complete deletion within 30 days of a verified request, after which your personal data is removed from active systems (excluding the limited categories in Section 5). Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone — you would need to create a new account to use Yaar Khata again.
7. Cancelling a subscription vs. deleting an account
Cancelling a Pro subscription stops future billing but keeps your account and data. Deleting your account removes your account entirely. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for billing details.
